Georgia Animal Rights and Protection (GARP)
A grassroots group of animal rights activists meeting
in Atlanta
GARP was formed in the spring of 2003 by a handful of
local activists who believed Georgia would benefit
from an organized, cohesive animal rights group.
Our membership has now grown to over 700
members, and it continues to grow. Since our
inception, we have held public meetings, and we have
organized many demonstrations, tabling events and
campaigns.
Our efforts focus on animal acts (i.e. circuses and
rodeos), factory farming, hunting, fur, vivisection
and Georgia animal cruelty laws. Our tactics include
setting up information tables, making school
presentations, leafleting, demonstrating, lobbying for
stronger anti-cruelty legislation and speaking to the
public through the media. In our efforts, we at GARP
only utilize legal methods; we do not tolerate the use
or discussion of violence. By organizing and working
as a group, we are able to create change much more
effectively than if we all act on our own: we are able
to pool resources and support each other in order to
reduce burnout.
GARP focuses on different issues at different times of
the year. There is no fee for membership, and, as a
member, you may choose when to participate and what to
participate in. We hold regular meetings the second Saturday of every other month (for 2005 - Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov) at the
Sandy Springs Library (click for driving directions) (located at 395 Mount Vernon Hwy Ne, Atlanta, GA 30328) from 10:30am to noon, to discuss targeted issues as well as organize upcoming events and actions. Event announcements are made by email to our members.
If you would like to be part of our volunteer base,
join our e-mail groups to be notified of upcoming
meetings and events, or learn more about us, click here to

GARP's main email group is used
only for making GARP event and meeting announcements;
it is not a discussion group. If you would like to be part of the local animal rights
discussion group or have access to a broader range of
local animal rights issues, select "YES" to membership for AR-GA when completing the GARP membership form.
Thank you for all the work you do for animals, and we
sincerely hope you join GARP and give us the
opportunity to get to know and work with you.
